Lights with support from K.Flay Live at Thekla, Bristol.

24 January 2015.

Staring off the show was K.Flay from San Francisco. Playing a intriguing yet captivating set, the crowd was treated to the unique musical style that K.Flay has to offer. Notably K.Flay is different from other artists out there. She is incredibly talented, her combination of synth and delicate vocals are reminiscent of the artists such as 'The Cinema', but this combined with her excellent rap skills made for an excellent electronic-indie hybrid with hip-hop undertones. Her short set which included more of her quite a bit off her songs of her latest release Life As A Dog included the incredibly melodic 'Can't Sleep' and 'Make Me Fade'. Her set definitely won the hearts of the audience and it was safe to say she had left the stage with a lot of new fans.

After an energetic performance, it was finally time for Lights to come on stage. The crowd erupted with cheer as she begun her set with a short piano piece that led into her first song, 'Muscle Memory' which the crowd were thrilled to hear. The crowd quickly picked up with her splendid performance of 'Toes' . Lights spends a lot of her time on stage reminiscing about her previous time in Bristol at Dot To Dot festival a whole five years ago asking if there were any people who had seen her their too. Although playing a lot of her newer stuff, Lights also plays some of her older music such as the cheerful song 'My Boots'. Even through the slower songs such as 'The Last Thing On Your Mind' off her first record the crowd sings along loudly. Definitely a favorite for the older fans in the room. The pace of the set picks up once again with her performance of 'Banner' which is evidently a crowd favorite.

Lights is extremely charismatic and never fails to make the crowd laugh with her comments about the UK including her expressing her love for Marks And Spencer's.  After her performance of 'Same Sea' the entire band exit the stage. It was however not long before the crowd started demanding for an encore. Lights eventually emerged back on stage asking the crowd how they would feel about her performing one or two more songs. The crowd cheer and lights performs'Up We Go' holding on to every high note throughout without a flaw. The song is followed by an introduction to her band mates who have performed spectacularly throughout the set. The encore was finalized by a performance of 'Oil And Water' not one of the most upbeat songs off her new album but definitely one that allowed her to showcase her versatile vocal range that allowed the crowd to be left in complete awe. Altogether, it was definitely an excellent show for both K.Flay and Lights one that will most definitely sit in the memories of many fans for a long time to come.
