Drenge, Live at Trinity Bristol
20th April 2015
Drenge recently embarked on a tour of the UK to promote their latest album Undertow that was released on the 6th of April this year. The show at Trinity, Bristol was one of the many shows on their solid tour of the UK. The venue was packed with little room for much movement despite being a big venue. There were plenty of energetic fans who anticipated the sold out show, whilst many others were desperate to find a way in. With the help of the amazing support acts, PINS and Big Deal the crowd were already hyped up through both of their magnificent sets.
Drenge take the stage shortly after Big Deal and fill the room with the sounds of their opener ‘Running Wild’ which is the second track on their brand new album. The crowd is sent into a mania which does not die down by the band are a few songs in. Their performance of ‘Nothing’ and ‘Bloodsports’ fill the room with a gigantic mosh and crowd surfers begin to take off. Although there is not much interaction between the band and the crowd, the crowd do not seem to care and have a spectacular time nonetheless. Not a single person in the crowd seemed disappointed with their performance which was no surprise judging how effortless they were.
The crowd were delighted that the band played a good split of old and new tracks. This was possibly due to the fact that a lot would of imagined the band playing mainly new songs due to the new album release. Nevertheless new tracks such as ‘Favourite Son’ were welcomed by the crowd and had most off their feet with beer being splashed out of their cups—complete mayhem within the room. The set didn’t feel like there was much structure to it unlike other bands who arrange songs in a manner in which slower songs are usually placed within the middle of their set. This however gave the set a decent carefree stylisation to it. Drenge’s tracks too are normally quite intense and angsty but more calmed songs such as ‘Fuckabout’ waited until the near end of the set to be performed. The band ended off with ‘Let’s Pretend’ and did not play an encore which a lot of people seemed to want. Overall however, the band managed to put on the spectacular show that they are well known for. Fans seemed to enjoy despite the fact that few people left the venue gritty covered in beer and sweat. Definitely and excellent time for all.
